What happens when disputes overshadow success?
While many commercial cases avoid headlines, there are times
when disagreements make the news. As expected, the Washington Football Team
didn’t make it past the wild card round. Off the field, the dispute
among co-owners is a bigger cause for concern. Claims now include
allegations of financial and corporate irregularities. Last month, performer
Lil Wayne was sued by his former manager for $20 million in allegedly
unpaid fees.
Whether there is a dispute among co-owners or someone
has failed to pay amounts due, Asterion’s experience in commercial damage
litigation can help you determine the amounts owed or refute amounts allegedly
due.
Class Action
Update
Class actions may be an effective way to deal with common claims
in a single process, but plaintiffs must be patient. After four years, the
claims of fans who filed suit regarding cancellation of the 2016
NFL Hall of Fame game have been certified as a class. Recently,
persistent peanut
farmers were also granted class certification in an action against shelling
companies. Newly filed cases involve a wide spectrum of consumer complaints:
the fabric used in Under
Armour workout clothes, the vulnerability of Amazon’s Ring
doorbell camera, flaws in the Cyberpunk 2077 computer
game, and the apparently dismaying revelation that King Hawaiian rolls are
baked in California.
If you are involved in a class action, Asterion can
analyze whether class criteria are met from a financial perspective, as well as
calculating or defending claims in these matters.

The Ninth
Circuit has issued a decision that sides with Dr. Seuss against a claim
of fair use.

We’re Watching: Selling Out or Cashing In?
Rock stars selling all or part of their song catalogs is now in
vogue. Stevie Nicks
sold a majority interest in her song catalog for $100 million; of course, Lindsay
Buckingham followed suit, selling his remaining interest in his
works. Bob Dylan
sold his catalog outright, for an undisclosed amount estimated at more than
$300 million. Neil Young
chose to sell a 50% interest in his music rights. (We wonder how long it will
take him to disagree over licensing requests.)
If you are considering selling your business or a
partial interest therein, Asterion can help.
